Understanding the Need For Detox Tea

Not so very long ago, I went through a period in my life where I did not take care of myself. Between problems at work and stress at home, I could barely hold anything together and when I finally did look up, I realized that I had put on twenty pounds! The truth of the matter is that this was not strange to me. I’ve had a yo-y waistline my whole life but this was an all time high for me. I started to get things back on track with eating better and getting more exercise, but to my dismay, none of this seemed to work. This is when a good friend of my recommended a Detox Tea.

“You’re not doing anything wrong,” she said soothingly. “What’s happening is that your body has stored up toxins and it is having a hard time getting rid of it. This is why you need to take a sec to look at a body cleanse detox.”

I’ll admit that the idea of a body cleanse detox did sound pretty good. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I had just been feeling heavy and tired all the time and it wasn’t just the weight I was carrying. There were days when I felt so listless that I could barely go to work, and there were nights when I just couldn’t sleep because I was so uncomfortable inside my own skin.

My problem is what detox tea was made for. Detox tea goes into your system and starts helping you purge the toxins that might have built up in your body. Just over the course of living, you will find that you can quickly start building up toxins in your body and that overall, it is going to detract from how effectively your body works. For instance, not only are you going to spend lots of time trying to lose weight, you might notice that you are also going to run into things like insomnia and fatigue!

How do you know if a body cleanse detox is something that you want to take advantage of? While I mentioned insomnia, fatigue and a persistent inability to lose weight, you might also notice things like acne, constipation, menstrual problems, high blood pressure and varicose veins. Some of the more dire effects of the prolonged presence of toxins in your body include things like kidney stones, a hardening of the arteries, prostate disease and even heart problems! When you put it in perspective like this, you can see why you might need to take a look at detox tea.

My results with the detox tea were great. After just a short amount of time, I started to see weight loss that pleased me, but it was so much more than that. Suddenly, I wasn’t tired all the time anymore. Suddenly, I had the energy that you need to do everything that I wanted to. My friends and family noticed and more than that, I was happy with myself!

Detoxification and Weight Loss – A Win-Win!

With the increase of toxins within the environment and foods we eat, it is not surprising that the majority of people are at a level of toxicity that is past the point that the bodies own natural detoxification system can cope with.

Chemicals and toxins can build up in your system and cause problems regardless of your body weight. But when body fat begins to accumulate, that usually means toxins are

accumulating too.

The body retains fats as a way to protect the vital organs in the body from the toxins that we ingest (and create through stress). Body fat accumulation, especially around the mid section, is a visible sign of toxic build up and a good indication that the liver is not functioning as efficiently as it should.

If toxins build up faster than they can be eliminated, in an attempt to protect your organs, your body will actually make body fat for the specific purpose of storing toxins as

far away from vital organs as possible. This fat is particularly stubborn fat that is very difficult to lose unless you decrease the toxic load and you do something to help your body detoxify.

So when we detoxify and cleanse the body of toxins, we give the body a chance to repair and strengthen itself – and when the toxins disappear, guess what happens to the

protective layer of fat…yes, that disappears too!

Everything that crosses your lips must be used by your body, or it must be neutralized and eliminated as a waste product. Otherwise it is stored in your body and piles up like

garbage.

Environmental exposures that you come into contact with on a daily basis and also build up toxins in your body include:

· Exposure to detergents, solvents, cleaning fluids, adhesives and fumes from paint, gasoline or automobile is practically unavoidable

· Insecticides including the ones in your grocery store that spray your fruits and vegetables to keep bugs away

· Hormones, steroids and antibiotics you get by eating all non-organic meat, poultry, diary and even fish

· Agricultural chemical contaminants such as pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and growth hormones which are sprayed during crop production

· Food additives, including nitrates, food dyes and preservatives. Over 7800 man-made chemicals are approved for use in food processing

If these substances are not eliminated, they will build up, clog you up, drag you down and could seriously damage your health. Your liver plays a valuable role in eliminating toxins and processing everything that goes in your body.

If your liver gets overloaded, toxins begin circulating in your blood and, besides making you feel tired and sluggish, those toxins can damage your organs and glands, cause increased inflammation in your body, cause headaches, cause weight gain, and generally make you feel bad.

Acne, chronic headaches, chronic fatigue, a poor complexion, lack-luster hair and a build up of fat around the midsection are just a few of the common symptoms of an overworked liver.

Preventing toxic build-up helps keep your liver functioning at peak efficiency. And a well-functioning liver gives you many fat burning, energy building, and health enhancing benefits.

Things that put extra stress on your liver and can seriously interfere with the livers ability to make bile and to detoxify include:

  • Sugar and artificial sweeteners because they have no nutritive value and processing them burns up vital nutrients your liver needs to function properly (soda is a HUGE culprit in the American diet).
  • Trans-fatty acids because their extra toxic nature burns essential nutrients like a blowtorch and directly interferes with both bile production and detoxification.
  • Most over the counter pain relievers and practically all prescription drugs,
including blood pressure and cholesterol drugs which are now prescribed like candy. These substances put a HEAVY toxic burden on the liver.
  • Regular alcohol consumption, because ultimately alcohol will pickle your liver and a pickled liver is a dead liver.
  • Constipation, because the liver empties toxins into the colon and if the colon is backed up, the liver dumps the toxins into fat cells, and the toxins are retained in the body.

To start your bodies detoxification process, use cleansing formulas (like Zands cleansing formula) to detoxify the bowels, liver, kidneys and blood.

Always start a detox by cleansing the bowel. The aim is to improve its efficiency so

you have regular bowel movements (ideally once each morning and after each meal (I did say ideally!) and the bowel is free of yeast (candida) overgrowths but plentiful in ‘good’ bacteria.

Take a complete fiber supplement such as TwinLab’s Fiber/Digestion/Regularity capsules which includes psyllium husks. It also contains Betaine Hydrochloride which helps with digestion and destroys the bad bacteria. While taking supplements drink plenty of water and herbal teas (iced herbal tea is great too ~ no sugar or artificial sweeteners though). Also include lots of fresh fruit and vegetables in the diet, avoiding red meat, alcohol, caffeine, wheat and dairy products. Continue for around 10 days or until you recover regular bowel movements. Once the bowels are ‘happy’ you can move onto the rest of the body. Take an herbal supplement containing cleansing herbs such as milk thistle. Continue drinking plenty of fluids, eating fresh fruit and vegetables and avoiding the triggers mentioned above.

The following foods are also great to include in your diet during this time (eat organic as much as possible ~ and since there are many organic resources there should be no excuse); carrot juice, beetroots, watercress, super foods such as wheatgrass and barley grass, garlic, lemon juice and nuts and seeds. Detoxification teas can also be extremely beneficial while detoxifying your body ~try Yogi Tea Wellness Detox Tea.

Another great detoxification aide is have weekly sea salt baths. Abra Herbal Hydrotherapy Baths Cellular Detox is especially good as it includes essential oils and vitamin antioxidants. There are many great resources on the internet about how to do a proper detoxification and you can spend lots of money on complex programs that promise the world. The truth is that you must do what feels right for your body. And most often, that includes simple steps like drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of fresh whole food, avoiding processed and sugary foods.

Total Body Detoxification Tips and Tricks You Can Do At Home

When your body is sick in any way the pH is disrupted. Your body does whatever it can to keep up with the extra acid produced. When it can’t keep up, disease happens. Disease is a breakdown of your body’s cells optimal function. Disease happens through poor eating habits, overwork, stuffing your emotions, eating too many cooked foods, too much sugar, salt, caffeine, drugs, vaccines, tension, depression, lack of proper rest, lack of exercise, environmental contamination of the air/water/food and the retention of metabolic wastes (constipation). The only effective way to “cure” disease is to eliminate the causes.

Can we stop disease or reverse agonizing symptoms? Yes. How? We have to clean up our lives with optimal nutrition, special diets, cleansing programs, specific vitamins and supplements, fresh extracted juices, herbs and other natural therapies which do not harm the body over time. We must change our living habits and the way we think. We need to find a balance between the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of our life.

All cures come from within the central core of your body first, then it progresses outward and from the top of your body down to your feet and in reverse order in which the symptoms first occurred.

So, how does one detoxify? It can’t be done overnight. You took time to build those toxins up. If you go too fast, it will throw your body into a healing crisis which we’ll tell you about at the end of this article. Plan for a four-month program.

The body should be cleansed in this order: Bowels, liver, kidneys, blood and lymph.

Bowel detoxification–Starting the process: Eat more fresh raw fruits and vegetables. The more varied the colors, the better and more balanced the cleanse will be. Some of my favorite fruits and vegetables to keep the body in tip-top shape include: Apples, carrots, watermelon, tayberries, raspberries, cherries, papaya, parsley, ginger, broccoli and zucchini. These provide fiber and fluid to get the bowels moving, improves oxygen utilization, helps to burn up waste products in the system, and stabilize blood pH making the body more alkaline. When the body is alkaline it has energy to fight off disease, so that it can detoxify and rebuild. Cut back on cheese, meat, poultry and refined foods. Eliminate packaged items. Eat more eggs.

For chronic constipation problems, my favorite product is Nature’s Sunshine LBS II. It is non-addictive and can shift your bowel habits permanently with only a few months of adding it to your supplement program. Some people prefer to add in coffee enemas or colon hydrotherapy. This is good, but don’t overdo the coffee enemas. Three per week should be the maximum amount for coffee enemas in the detoxification program. And if your issue is loose bowels, irritable bowel syndrome or Crohn’s disease, you may want to add in Bowel pathogen nosode drops for parasites and Large Intestine RET drops for emotions associated with imbalance of the bowels.

Emotional RET Remedies: These wonderful homeopathic/flower essence combinations were developed by Professional Health Formulations to help with the emotional aspects of physical symptoms within the body. Seventy percent of all disease processes have some emotional component to them. So if you are doing all the right things and taking all the right drugs, supplements, and diet for something and it still isn’t working, these drops may be your ticket

Note: Cooked, processed, or pasteurized fruits and vegetables are devoid of enzymes. Heat kills many vitamins and cooked fruits will make the body more acidic. Consuming three servings EACH of raw fruits, raw vegetables and cooked vegetables (that’s nine servings total) is the minimum for optimal health, but you will want to take in five servings of each per day for a total of 15 servings servings/day on a detoxification program.

Juicing is an easy way to get those servings in. Adding some raw beet juice and green bitter vegetables will stimulate the gall bladder to get things moving.

You may also want to add in some liquid acidophilus if you have bowel issues, crave sugar, know you have yeast problems, or have had a history of taking antibiotics. Liquid vitamins and ionic mineral supplements are also helpful both in the detoxification and maintenance phases.

Liver Detoxification: Once bowel movements are happening smoothly, it’s time to start detoxifying the liver. Increase green foods and include green drinks, beets, milk thistle and add any homeopathic detoxosode drops that are appropriate. My favorites are: Sick Building detox drops, Mercury and Amalgam, Degenerative Tissues, and Food Additive Detox Drops for eliminating Aspartame, caffeine, chocolate, food colorings, MSG, sulfites, and nitrites from your system. Intravenous chelation is the Cadillac treatment for getting rid of heavy metals from your system, but I’ve found that carob powder will do quite well as well. It’s cheap and available. The dose is ¾ Teaspoon once a day for 30 days. If you are struggling with allergies, anger, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, glaucoma or cancer, you’ll want to add in some Liver RET drops.

Kidney Detoxification: Once you’ve completed the liver cleanse, the kidneys come next, so add in Cranberry Unsweetened Concentrate to your fruit and vegetable-rich diet. One teaspoon/day for six weeks. My favorite brands are Hains® and Tree of Life®. This product comes in 8-16 ounce bottles. It’s not the juice or frozen concentrate you buy in the juice isle. Look for it in the nutritional supplements of your local health food store. Eat lots of ginger, parsley and watermelon. Kidney RET emotional remedy is added at this point if the person is experiencing nervousness, fear, anxiety, dread or worry in their personality traits. I add Myrrh Gum Powder in at this time as well to help with yeast and purification. Take up to four capsules/day for about nine weeks depending on the severity of yeast you may have in your system.

Blood and Lymph Detoxification: This is the final step in the process and should occur at approximately month four of your detoxification process. Now add in some Poke Root Tincture at 12 drops/day to get the lymph moving. Signs of lymph and circulation stasis include fluid retention, fibrocystic breasts, elevated Prostate Specific Antigen and lymphatic cancers. Irish moss will help balance out the cellular salts, and keep eating that parsley. Add in ¾ teaspoon of blackstrap molasses a day for added minerals and iron. Also add in five tablets a day of American Health Papaya Enzymes to help disintegrate the remaining tar of fermented proteins built up in your intestines over the years.

You should be feeling pretty good now, but adding in Spiritual RET drops helps to integrate the physical healing with the mental and spiritual healing.

So, how do you know when you are detoxifying too quickly? Symptoms of a healing crisis can include: Fever, swollen limbs/face, headaches, mobilization of mucous, weakness, weight-loss, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and other digestive disorders, pains resurfacing, worsening of existing symptoms, rapid pulse, skin eruptions, and some say they feel like their world is “collapsing”.

What is the difference between a healing crisis and illness? You know when you are having a healing crisis because: The crisis usually lasts only one to three days. At the end of the healing crisis you feel much better than before the healing crisis occurred. You are eating all the right things and up until the healing crisis have had a good attitude. You know you are making changes in your lifestyle and are working on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of your life. You are mentally prepared to get through the healing. You may have just pampered yourself with some kind of bodywork–this sometimes stimulates a healing crisis. This is a good thing. If you are truly sick, the symptoms above feel awful as time progresses. The symptoms are more than transient and more than mild.

Ways to work through a healing crisis: Drink lots of water, treat yourself to a massage or hot bath, do daily caster oil packs over your liver for 3-5 days, fast for a day or two, get a chiropractic adjustment, pray and do some attitudinal work and find a support team.

It’s important to note, if you plan on drinking only detoxification drinks for more than a few days, make sure your current health status allows you to change from your normal diet to a detox diet. Before doing any kind of long-term or drastic detox you should consult with a doctor.

With that said, here are 7 homemade detox drinks to help you lose weight:

  3. Cabbage Juice: Cabbage is very effective for detoxifying your liver. Do this on a day when you have plenty of time to stay home near the bathroom as it will run through your body very quickly. Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons of natural sea salt into one quart of lukewarm water. Do not use table salt; it will not have the same effect. Stir or shake until the salt is dissolved. Drink and then relax. Most people report a bowel movement within 30 minutes to two hours and several more may follow. Once you have cleansed your system, restore it by eating yogurt to replenish the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract, drink juice, and eat fresh, soft-cooked and steamed fruits and vegetables.

In addition to these detox drinks, make sure to eat lots of veggies, fruits and whole grain foods that fill you up and give you the best chance for quickly losing weight.
